“But the hour is coming, and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such people to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” (John 4:23-24)

This is what we need to discover, dear friends - worship in spirit and truth - for the Heavenly Father is seeking worshipers today. He has called each one of us to worship. Indeed, worship is the foremost duty of the “royal priest” - the ministry committed to every believer.

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

WORSHIP is PRAISE to THE ALMIGHTY

1 for WHO HE IS - adoration, love and appreciation

2 for WHAT HE HAS DONE - His marvelous works

- in creation

- in history

- in redemption

- in the individual’s life

- in deliverance.

This is our calling, our ministry, beloved, and we need to learn to express worship. We may be young in the faith, but we read;

“OUT OF THE MOUTH OF INFANTS AND NURSING BABIES YOU HAVE PREPARED PRAISE FOR YOURSELF.” (Matthew 21:16)

It’s disappointing that many of us believers, even after years of Christian experience, cannot utter more than two or three sentences of true worship. Some of us can talk and pray at great length, but the actual worship content of our prayers, is minimal.

This booklet is a follow-on from my articles on the Royal Priesthood. It is offered with prayer that these portions will help believers to develop Scripture-based worship expression.

In those articles I encouraged readers to select verses from the Psalms and Revelation, and to use them in their personal and corporate worship. Guided by the Holy Spirit, such Scripture-based worship can become a true expression of love, praise, adoration, and truth - “worship in spirit and truth.”

This booklet has selections of worship verses from the Psalms and Revelation. They have been arranged into 30 portions that may, if desired, be used as daily readings and worship.

These selections are NOT intended to be substitutes for, or an abridged version of, the full psalms. They are arranged to be an aid in developing worship expression.

To truly benefit from this booklet, my reader, I suggest that you make effort to memorize some of the lines or stanzas. Choose some lines from each portion. Underline or highlight them, and then commit them to memory.

Reading these portions again and again, over a period of time, will establish them in your memory; and shortly you will find, I believe, the words coming spontaneously from your lips in worship.

Many believers do not believe in praying “printed prayers.” Actually, a Scripture-based printed prayer, if sincere and read meaningfully, can be of more blessing than prayers that waffle on without much spiritual or Scriptural content. Don’t hesitant to read the Scriptures as worship.

Each of the following 30 portions in this booklet have been arranged into this type of order:

The Scripture version used in this booklet is the CPV - (Clear Preferred Version). This version is in modern English, and seeks to be true to the early Hebrew and Greek manuscripts. It uses the revealed, sacred Name of the Almighty (wherever it appears in the Hebrew Bible).

The Name is written as YHWH () in Hebrew, and as Yahweh in English. Earlier, Christians pronounced the Name as Yehowah or Jehovah, but research over the past century, has led to the accepted current pronunciation of Yah-weh.

Why Do I Emphasize the Name of Yahweh?

For the simple reason - the Bible does! This blessed Name is used 6,855 times in the original (Hebrew) Bible - more than any other name in the Scriptures.

Many mistakenly think the Name of the Almighty is “Lord God.” But “Lord” and “God” are titles, not names! If Yahweh is not His Name, then tell me, what is His Name?

“Who has established all the ends of the earth?

What is His Name or His Son’s Name?

Surely you know!” (Proverbs 30:4)

Isn’t Yahweh an Obsolete Name of the Hebrew Deity?

It is the Name of the God of Israel, and it is not obsolete! The God of Israel is indeed the Great Creator, the God of the Universe, and the God of the Church. And He Himself says this is the Name by which He is to be remembered.

The Name was revealed first to Adam and Eve. It was known by Abraham, and later it was revealed anew to Moses at the burning bush:

“And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM’; and He said, ‘This is what you shall say to the sons of Israel, “I AM has sent me to you”.’ And God also said to Moses, ‘This shall you say to the sons of Israel, “YHWH, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is MY MEMORIAL NAME TO ALL GENERATIONS (by this Name I am to be remembered from generation to generation)”.’ “ (Exodus 3:15)

The Name is connected to the Hebrew verb hayah - “to be, to live” and the “I AM” in the above verses. This suggests the meaning of “Yahweh,” -- “the Eternally-existing One.”

King David and the Biblical writers all knew and used the Name of YHWH, but later, due to a fear of misusing the sacred Name, the Jews ceased to speak the Name. For this reason the exact pronunciation was lost.

It is indeed a holy Name, but God never said, “Don’t speak My Name.” He said, “Do not take My Name in vain.”

The first syllable of the Name, YAH, is used in the Bible as the short form of Yahweh. It is used, for example, with the word hallelu (praise). Hallelu-Yah means, “praise Yah.”

The Jews have traditionally used two substitute words for Yahweh - Adonai (Lord), and HaShem (The Name). Unfortunately most of our English Bible use the substitute word - LORD (4 capital letters) - instead of the Name. There are several English Bibles that have not eliminated the Name.

Many Christians pray, “Glorify Thy Name,” and profess great love for “the Name of the Lord.” But when asked for details of the Name, they shrug their shoulders. It’s a mystery! But the LORD has said:

“My people shall know My Name; therefore in that day they will know that it is ‘I AM’ who is speaking. Yes, it is I!” (Isaiah 52:6)

And King David prayed, “They who know Your Name will put their trust in You; For You, O YHWH, have never forsaken those who seek You.” (Psalm 9:10)

I encourage believers to read the portions aloud. And as it takes time to get used to speaking the Name of Yahweh, I have in most places used the Name along with the usual English substitute:- YAHWEH/THE LORD. Either term can be spoken; or both can be used together - Yahweh the Lord.

In a few places I have used the Hebrew Elohim (God), and Adonai (Master), as both these terms are used so often in the Bible, and they should be part of the Christian’s vocabulary. They are lovely terms.

The reader may be surprised by the number of times the personal Name of Yahweh appears in the Psalms; and even the word “Name.” We have printed the word Name in bold letters to draw attention to its frequency.

Some Christians are confused about the Name. They say it is unfamiliar, and does not mean anything to them.

Sadly, that’s because they have not been taught! I was like that some years ago. But now I know my Father’s Name, and I love it; it is like “ointment poured forth.”

And I pray, my dear reader, that if you do not yet have a love for the Sacred Name, the Holy Spirit will use these worship portions to bless you, and to create within you, a deep appreciation of that highly-exalted Name.

1 The Rock of Our Salvation !

Come, let us sing to YAHWEH/THE LORD.

Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation.

Let us come before His Presence with thanksgiving.

Let us shout to Him with psalms,

for YAHWEH/THE LORD is a great God,

and a great King above all gods. 95:1-3

YAHWEH lives! Blessed is my Rock,

and exalted is the God of my salvation …

He delivers me from my enemies.

You lift me up above my opponents;

6 Your Right Hand Upholds Me !

It is God who arms me with strength,

and makes my way perfect.

He makes my feet like hinds’ feet,

and causes me to stand on my high places,

and trains my hands for battle;

my arms can bend a bow of bronze.

You have also given me the Shield of Your Salvation,

and Your right Hand upholds me.

And Your lowliness -

Your condescension makes me great.

You enlarge the path under me for my steps,

and my ankles do not twist. 18:28-36

I will sing to YAHWEH/THE LORD as long as I live;

I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. 104:33

In Your Name I lift up my hands.

My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness,

and my mouth praises You with singing, joyful lips.

When I remember You on my bed,

7 The King of All the Earth !

God has ascended with a shout;

YAHWEH/THE LORD with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises!

Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

For God is King of all the earth.

Sing praises to Him with understanding.

God reigns over the nations,

God sits on His holy Throne. 47:5-8

YAHWEH/THE LORD is my Rock,

my Fortress and my Deliverer;

my God, my Rock, in whom I take refuge and trust.

He is my Shield and the Horn of my Salvation,

my High Tower - my Stronghold.

I call upon YAHWEH/THE LORD,

the One who is to be praised,

and I am saved from my enemies. 18:2-3

Save us, O YAHWEH our God,

and gather us from among the nations,

to give thanks to Your holy Name,

and to triumph in Your praise. 106:47

My heart is steadfast, O God; I sing,

The Mighty One, YAHWEH Elohim,

Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving,

and fulfil your vows to the Most High. 50:1-2, 14

YAHWEH/THE LORD is my Light and my Salvation;

whom shall I fear?

YAHWEH/THE LORD is the Refuge -

the Stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? …

One thing I have asked of YAHWEH/THE LORD,

and this I seek -

that I may dwell in the House of YAHWEH/THE LORD

all the days of my life,

to gaze upon the beauty of YAHWEH/THE LORD,

and to inquire and meditate in His Sanctuary. 27:1, 4

9 The Fountain of Life !

Shout joyfully to God, all the earth!

Sing of the splendour of His Name;

Because of the greatness of Your power,

Your enemies will give feigned obedience to You.

All the earth bows to You; they sing praises to You;

they praise Your Name.

Come and see the works of God;

such awesome acts towards the sons of men. 66:1-5

O YAHWEH my God,

many are the wonders which You have done,

and Your thoughts and purposes toward us -

(there is no one to compare with You!) -

I maintain and declare: they are more than can be counted. 40:5

Your loving-kindness, O YAHWEH, extends to the heavens;

11 Enter His Courts with Praise !

Shout joyfully to YAHWEH/THE LORD all the earth.

Know that YAHWEH Himself is God.

It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves.

We are His people and the sheep of His pasture.

Enter His gates with thanksgiving,

and into His courts with praise.

Give thanks to Him; bless His Name.

For YAHWEH/THE LORD is good.

His loving-kindness is everlasting,

and His faithfulness endures to all generations. 100:1-5

Lead me to the Rock that is higher than I.

For You have been a refuge for me,

a Tower of Strength in the face of the enemy.

Let me dwell in Your Tent forever.

I trust in the shelter of Your wings. 61:2-4

God is to us a God of deliverances;

and from YAHWEH/THE LORD comes escape from death. 68:20

He who keeps our soul in life,

and does not allow our feet to slip. 66:9

12 My Rock and My Salvation !

As the deer pants for streams of water,

so my soul pants for You, O God.

My soul thirsts for Elohim, for the living God.

When shall I come and see the face of God? 42:1-2

Only in God is my soul quiet and at rest;

my salvation is from Him.

He alone is my Rock and my Salvation,

my Fortress; I am not greatly shaken …

My soul, wait quietly for God alone,

for my expectation is from Him.

He alone is my Rock and my Salvation,

my Fortress; I am not greatly shaken.

My salvation and glory depend on Elohim;

the Rock of my Strength; my refuge is in God. 62:1-2,5-7

Oh, how great is Your goodness,

which You have stored up for those who fear You;

which You have prepared for those who trust in You,

in the sight of the sons of men!

You hide them in the secrecy of Your Presence

from the conspiracies of men;

You keep them in a shelter from the strife of tongues. 31:19-20

How blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!

O YAHWEH, they walk in the light of Your Countenance.

In Your Name they rejoice all day long,

and by Your righteousness they are exalted.

For You are the glory of their strength,

and by Your favour our horn is exalted.

For our shield belongs to YAHWEH/THE LORD,

and our king to the Holy One of Israel …

He will cry to Me, “You are my Father,

my God, and the Rock of my salvation.” 89:15-18, 26

You are worthy, O LORD, YAHWEH,

to receive glory and honour and power;

for You created all things,

and because of Your will they exist, and were created. Rev. 4:11

Blessed be YAHWEH ELOHIM, the God of Israel,

who alone is doing wonders. 72:18

13 Holy and Awesome is His Name !

HOLY, HOLY, HOLY, is the LORD God, the Almighty,

who was, and who is, and who is coming! Rev. 4:8

Sing to Elohim, kingdoms of the earth;

Praise YAHWEH/THE LORD.

To Him who rides upon the highest heavens of old;

See, He sends out His voice, a mighty voice.

Ascribe strength to God; His majesty is over Israel,

and His strength is in the clouds. 68:32-34

The fear of YAHWEH/THE LORD

is the beginning of wisdom;

a good understanding have all those

who do His commandments;

His praise endures forever. 111:10

Cause the soul of Your servant to rejoice,

for to You, O Master, I lift up my soul.

For You, ADONAI / MASTER, are good,

and ready to forgive,

and great in kindness to all those who call upon You. 86:4-5

Praise YAH! / Hallelu-YAH!

I give thanks to YAHWEH/THE LORD with all my heart,

in the company of the upright and in the assembly.

Great are the works of YAHWEH/THE LORD;

they are studied by all who delight in them.

Splendid and majestic is His work;

and His righteousness endures forever.

He has made His wonders to be remembered.

YAHWEH/THE LORD is gracious and compassionate.

He has given food to those who fear Him;

He remembers His covenant forever.

He has shown His people the power of His works,

in giving them the inheritance of the nations.

The works of His hands are truth and justice;

all His precepts are sure.

They are upheld forever and ever;

they are performed in truth and uprightness.

He has sent redemption to His people;

He has ordained His covenant for ever.

Holy and awesome is His Name. 111:1-9

in all places of His dominion. 103:22

14 Yahweh is Greatly to be Praised !

Sing to God; proclaim His Name in song!

Extol Him who rides on the clouds -

His Name is YAH - and rejoice before Him. 68:4

I praise the Name of God with a song,

and I magnify Him with thanksgiving …

Let the heavens and earth praise Him,

The heavens are proclaiming the glory of God;

and the vast expanse of the sky declares

the work of His hands. 19:1

Great is YAHWEH/THE LORD, and greatly to be praised;

and His greatness is unsearchable.

Generation after generation praises Your works,

and they declare Your mighty acts.

I will declare the glorious splendour of Your majesty,

and tell all about Your wonderful works.

15 Mourning Turned to Dancing !

Shout for joy to God, our Strength;

The glory of YAHWEH/THE LORD endures forever;

you His devout, godly people,

and give thanks at the remembrance of His holiness.

For His anger is but for a moment;

Weeping may last for the night,

You have turned my mourning into dancing for me,

Splendour and majesty are before Him,

The world also is firmly established, immovable.

Where can I go from Your Spirit?

Where can I flee from Your Presence?

19 The Salvation of Our God !

for He has done wonders.

His Right Hand and His Holy Arm

have brought salvation and given Him the victory.

in the sight of the nations.

He has remembered His loving-kindness

and His faithfulness to the House of Israel.

All the ends of the earth have seen

the salvation of our God. 98:1-3

Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne,

and to the Lamb. Rev. 7:10

Gracious is YAHWEH/THE LORD, and righteous;

yes, our God is compassionate.

YAHWEH/THE LORD preserves the simple;

I was brought low, and He saved me. 116:5-6

I am like a green olive tree in the House of God;

I have trusted in the kindness of God forever and ever.

I will give You thanks forever, because You have done it,

and in the presence of Your set apart people

I will wait on Your Name, for it is good. 52:8-9

How blessed and happy is the one whom You choose,

and bring near to dwell in Your courts.

We are satisfied with the goodness of Your House,

Your holy temple.

By awesome deeds in righteousness You answer us,

O God of our salvation - You who are the confidence

of all the ends of the earth and distant seas;

who establishes the mountains by His strength,

being girded with might; who stills the roaring of the seas,

the roaring of their waves, and the turmoil of the peoples.

They who live in the farthest parts stand in awe of Your signs.

You cause the outgoings of morning and evening -

the dawn and sunset - to sing for joy. 65:4-8

I exalt You, my God, O King;

and bless Your Name for ever and ever.

Every day I bless You,

and praise Your Name for ever and ever. 145:1-2

20 Yahweh The Almighty Reigns !

Shout joyfully to YAHWEH/THE LORD, all the earth.

Break forth and shout for joy, and sing praises.

Sing to YAHWEH/THE LORD with the harp;

with the lyre and the voice of praise;

with trumpets and the sound of a horn.

Shout joyfully before YAHWEH/THE LORD the King. 98:4-6

Hallelu-YAH! For the LORD OUR GOD,

THE ALMIGHTY / YAHWEH EL SHADDAI, reigns.

Let us rejoice and be glad and give Him glory,

for the Marriage of the Lamb has come

and His Bride has prepared herself. Rev. 19:6-7

All Your garments are fragrant with myrrh,

aloes and cassia. Out of ivory palaces,

stringed instruments have made You glad. 45:8

Let the sea roar and all that fills it;

the world and those who dwell in it.

Let the rivers clap their hands.

Let the mountains sing together for joy,

before YAHWEH/THE LORD,

for He is coming to judge the earth.

He judges the world in righteousness,

Your throne is established from antiquity;

To declare Your loving-kindness in the morning,

For You, O YAHWEH, have made me glad by Your work.

Great and marvellous are Your works,

21 The Lord is Enthroned !

YAHWEH/THE LORD reigns, let the nations tremble;

He sits enthroned between the cherubim.

Great is YAHWEH/THE LORD in Zion,

and He is high above all the peoples.

Let them praise Your great and awesome Name -

It is holy and set-apart! 99:1-3

Let Your priests put on righteousness;

For You Yourself light my lamp.

You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals,

22 Be Exalted, O God !

Exalt YAHWEH/THE LORD our God,

and bow yourselves in worship at His footstool.

He is Holy and set-apart!

Moses and Aaron were among His priests,

and Samuel was among those calling upon His Name.

They called upon YAHWEH/THE LORD,

and He answered them.

Exalt YAHWEH/THE LORD our God,

and bow yourselves in worship at His holy hill;

for holy is YAHWEH our Elohim. 99:5-6, 9

Blessed is YAHWEH/THE LORD, for He has shown

His marvellous kindness to me in a fortified city …

Oh, love YAHWEH/THE LORD,

all you His devout, godly people!

YAHWEH/THE LORD preserves the faithful,

but the proud and haughty He pays back in full.

Be strong, all you who are waiting for

YAHWEH/THE LORD,

I bow myself down and worship towards Your holy temple,

For He is our Elohim,

and we are the people of His pasture,

I shall not be in want.

He makes me to lie down in green pastures;

He leads me beside quiet waters.

He restores my soul.

He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name’s sake.

Yes, when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I fear no evil; for You are with me;

Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the face of my enemies;

You have anointed my head with oil.

My cup is full and running over.

Only goodness and loving-kindness follow me

all the days of my life, and I will dwell

Tell of all His wonderful acts. Glory in His holy Name.

Let the hearts of those who seek YAHWEH rejoice. 105:1-3

Bless YAHWEH/THE LORD, O my soul,

And do not forget all of His benefits;

Who pardons all your iniquities;

Who heals all your diseases;

Who redeems your life from destruction;

Who crowns you with kindness and compassion;

Who satisfies your desires with good,

so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

He has not dealt with us according to our sins,

nor rewarded us according to our iniquities.

For as high as the heavens are above the earth,

so great is His loving-kindness

YAHWEH/ LORD, You have been our dwelling-place

and our refuge in all generations.

Before the mountains were born,

or You had formed the earth and the world,

For Your mercy and loving-kindness reaches to the heavens,

25 Our Compassionate Father !

Seek YAHWEH/THE LORD and His strength;

Seek His Face continually.

Remember His wonders which He has done;

His marvels, and the judgments of His mouth,

O seed of Abraham His servant,

O sons of Jacob, His chosen ones!

He is YAHWEH our God;

His judgments are in all the earth. 105:4-7

As far as the east is from the west,

so far has He removed our transgressions from us.

As a father has compassion for his children,

so YAHWEH/THE LORD has compassion

for those who stand in awe of Him.

For He Himself knows how we are formed;

He is mindful that we are dust. 103:12-14

Let us go into His dwelling place;

let us worship at His footstool. 132:7

My mouth is filled with Your praise,

declaring Your splendour all day long …

But as for me, I always wait expectantly,

and will praise You more and more.

My mouth tells of Your righteousness

though I have not measured them.

I come in the strength of THE LORD YAHWEH;

For Your righteousness, O God, reaches to the skies,

26 The Glory of The Majesty !

YAHWEH/THE LORD has established His throne

in the heavens, and His kingdom rules over all. 103:19

Look! The eye of YAHWEH/THE LORD

is on those who stand in awe of Him,

on those who are waiting for His loving-kindness;

to deliver their soul from death,

and to keep them alive in famine.

Our soul has waited for YAHWEH/THE LORD;

He is our Help and our Shield.

Our heart rejoices in Him,

because we have trusted in His holy Name.

Let Your loving-kindness, O YAHWEH, be upon us,

for we have waited for You. 33:18-22

Of old You founded the earth,

and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

They will perish, but You remain;

and all of them will become old like a garment;

like clothing You will change them,

and they will be changed.

But You are the same, and Your years have no end. 102:25-27

All Your works give thanks to You, O YAHWEH,

and Your devout, set-apart people bless You.

They speak of the glory of Your kingdom,

and talk of Your power,

so that the sons of men may know Your mighty acts,

and the glory of the majesty of Your kingdom.

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and

27 Your Lovely Dwelling Places !

Praise YAHWEH/THE LORD, all you nations;

How lovely are Your dwelling places,

and His righteousness to children’s children,

and in the midst of many I will praise Him,

for He stands at the right hand of the needy,

Beautiful in its elevation, the joy of the whole earth,

is Mount Zion on the sides of the north,

Let all the kings of the earth give thanks to You,

Many see it and stand in awe,

and trust in YAHWEH/THE LORD.

How blessed is the man

who has made YAHWEH/THE LORD his trust,

and has not turned to the proud

You have declared Your strength among the peoples.

By Your power You have redeemed Your people,

the sons of Jacob and Joseph. 77:11-15

31 Sing to the Glory of His Name !

Shout joyfully to God, all the earth!

Sing to the glory of His Name; make His praise glorious. 66:1-2

Lift up your heads, O you gates,

and be lifted up, you everlasting doors,

and the King of Glory will come in!

Who is this King of Glory?

YAHWEH/THE LORD of Hosts,

He is the King of Glory. Selah. 24:7-10

Be exalted above the heavens, O God;

Let Your glory be above all the earth. 57:11

O give thanks to YAHWEH/THE LORD, call upon His Name;

make known His deeds among the peoples.

Sing to Him, sing praises to Him.

Tell of all His wonderful acts. Glory in His holy Name. 105:1-3

Who will not reverence, and glorify Your Name,

O YAHWEH? For You alone are holy! Rev. 15:4

O YAHWEH/THE LORD,

I have loved the habitation of Your House,

and the Place where Your Glory dwells. 26:6-8

I will give thanks to You, O ADONAI / MASTER, my God,

with all my heart,

I will glorify Your Name for ever. 86:12

Not to us, O YAHWEH, not to us,

but to Your Name give glory

because of Your loving-kindness, because of Your truth. 115:1

You are worthy, O LORD, YAHWEH,

to receive glory and honour and power;

for You created all things,

and because of Your will they exist, and were created. Rev. 4:11

Great is YAHWEH/THE LORD, and greatly to be praised;

and His greatness is unsearchable.

Generation after generation praises Your works,

and they declare Your mighty acts.

I will declare the glorious splendour of Your majesty,

and tell all about Your wonderful works. 145:3-5

I exalt You, my God, O King;

and bless Your Name for ever and ever.

Every day I bless You,

and praise Your Name for ever and ever. 145:1-2
